Look what I can write now!

This term I have been learning to use punctuation such as full stops, comma's and speechmarks and write more than one idea with details related to the topic.

We are learning to look at the first and last sounds in words. 

"I can look at the first and last sounds in new words to help me read them." 

I Am Learning To Add Details To My Writing

I am learning to add details to my writing.  

I can write when something happened.

"It was fun at Tara's birthday.  I liked smashing the bottles.  I can find the right day card when I ask my teacher to help me."

I Am Learning To Tell The Time

We have made clocks at school. 

We are learning to tell o'clock and half past times using our clocks.

"I go to school at 8'clock."

Our Big Book Activity - The Snake Cake

We have been reading the big book 'The Snake Cake' and decided that we would make a snake cake  too.  We spread pink icing on the biscuits and stuck them together so they looked liked a snake.  

Then we put some blue icing on the top and M & M's too.  

Then we ate it.  It was delicious!

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

Come along to see our artwork on display in the auditorium, during school hours, between the 

25th and 27th of August 2015.

Reading Term 3

I am learning to find the different marks (punctuation marks) in the book

·      fullstops

·      question marks

·      comma

·      exclamation mark

"Sometimes it’s tricky to remember the name of the ‘exclamation mark’.

I can find all these things in my books.  Sometimes I can’t find all of them.  I am learning what the different marks mean now."

Writing Term 3

Writing Progressions 1P:
I am learning to

• add some detail to my writing
• choose words to make my writing more interesting

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I like to write about race cars.  I use the word card and then I can go back and have a look at what the teacher wrote and then I copy it.  I am a good writer."

Maths Term 3

I am learning to add and subtract numbers to 10.

"I can play Slide Addition on the iPads.  I played with my buddy Cohen.  It was hard taking turns.  We had to slow down and count the dots so we could get the answer right."

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!

We used Kid Pix to create our backgrounds.
